∴ SP of the article = 800 × (9/8) = Rs. 900

16) A sum of 10,000 was lent partly at 10% and partly at 20%. The simple interest received after 3 years is 4,500. Find the money lent at 20%?

A) 4,000
B) 5,000
C) 6,000
D) 4,500

Ans: B

Given:

Principal = 10,000

Interest = Simple interest

3 years interest = 4,500

Lent partly at = 10% and 20%

Formula:

Simple interest = principal × rate/100 × time

Simple interest = Amount — Principal

Calculation:

Let the sum lent at 10% = p

Sum lent at 20% = (10,000 — p)

∴ (p × 10/100 × 3) + [(10,000 — p) × 20/100 × 3] = 4,500

⇒ 3/100 [(10p) + (2,00,000 — 20p)] = 4,500 (3/100 taken common)

⇒ 10p + 2,00,000 — 20p = 4,500 × 100/3

⇒ 2,00,000 — 1,50,000 = 20p — 10p

⇒ 10p = 50,000

⇒ p = 5,000

∴ Sum lent at 10% = p ⇒ 5,000

Sum lent at 20% = (10,000 — p) ⇒ (10,000 — 5,000) ⇒ 5,000

Alternate solution:

Partly lent at = 10% and 20%

Total SI for 3 years = 4,500

∴ SI for 1 year = 4,500/3 ⇒ 1,500

∴ Rate for 1 year = 1,500/10,000 × 100 ⇒ 15%

F1 Ashish.S 26-10 20 Savita D1

∴ Sum lent at 10% = 10,000/2 × 1 ⇒ 5,000

Sum lent at 20% = 10,000/2 × 1 ⇒ 5,000

17) LCM of two prime numbers x and y, (x > y), is 161. The value of 3y – x is

A) 2
B) -2
C) -5
D) 62

Ans:

Given:

LCM of two prime number x and y is 161

where x > y

Concept:

Prime number:

  • The numbers other than 1 whose only factors are 1 and the number itself are called Prime numbers.
  • 2 is the smallest prime number which is even.
  • Every prime number except 2 is odd.

The least common multiple (LCM):

  • It is the “smallest non-zero common number” which is a multiple of both the numbers.
  • For example, consider two numbers x and y, whose prime factors are,

x = a × a × b × c

y = a × b × b × b

Then,

LCM of x and y will be = a × a × b × b × b × c

Calculation:

Prime factors of 161 are 7 and 23 only. Therefore we can say that LCM of 7 and 23 will be 161.

Hence, we can write,

161 = 7 × 23

Hence,

x = 23 and y = 7 (as x > y)

Now the value of 3y – x is

3 × 7 – 23 = -2

Hence, the value of 3y -x is -2.

A) 202

B) 172

C) 192

D) 182

Ans: 192

⇒ 160 × 8 + 12 – 6 ÷ 180 × 6 – 4

When signs are interchanged,

⇒ 160 ÷ 8 – 12 + 6 × 180 ÷ 6 – 4

⇒ 20 – 12 + 6 × 30 + 4

⇒ 8 + 180 + 4 = 192

Now, checking the options and solve equation using BODMAS rule;

1) −, +, ÷, =, ×, +

⇒ 52 – 12 + 15 ÷ 3 = 6 × 5 + 15

⇒ 52 – 12 + 5 = 6 × 5 + 15

⇒ 52 + 5 – 12 = 30 + 15

⇒ 57 – 12 = 45

⇒ 45 = 45

LHS = RHS

2) −, +, ×, =, ÷, +

⇒ 52 – 12 + 15 × 3 = 6 ÷ 5 + 15

⇒ 52 – 12 + 15 × 3 = 1.2 + 15

⇒ 52 + 45 – 12 = 1.2 + 15

 97 – 12 = 16.2

⇒ 85 ≠ 16.2

LHS ≠ RHS

3) −, +, ÷, ×, =, +

⇒ 52 – 12 + 15 ÷ 3 × 6 = 5 + 15

⇒ 52 – 12 + 5 × 6 = 5 + 15

⇒ 52 + 30 – 12 = 5 + 15

⇒ 82 – 12 = 20

⇒ 70 ≠ 20

LHS ≠ RHS

4) +, −, ÷, ×, =, +

⇒ 52 + 12 – 15 ÷ 3 × 6 = 5 + 15

⇒ 52 + 12 – × 6 = 5 + 15

⇒ 52 + 12 – 30 = 20

⇒ 64 – 30 = 20

⇒ 34 ≠ 20

LHS ≠ RHS
